Compared with the Subclass 188 Business Innovation and Investment (provisional) Visa, the 132 visa puts higher net personal and business assets requirement on applicants. As a return, applicants can get permanent residence in Australia immediately.
Firstly, applicants need to submit their expression of interest to apply for 132 visas to State or Territory government agencies or Austrade. The government will then review the applicant’s circumstances and business plan. Different states or territories may have various additional investment activity requirements. Only the successful applicants will be nominated and invited by the government to apply for the 132 visas.

The 132 visa has two streams, and each stream has unique requirements.
  • Significant Business History stream (132A): This 132A visa is for experienced business owners who have business and personal assets of at least AUD1.5 million; and business turnover of at least AUD3 million. Once the 132A visa is granted, they must own and run a new or existing business in Australia.
Although, each of the two streams has its unique requirements, there are still some common 132 application requirements:
  • Have at least functional English Level (IELTS 4.5; PTE 30)
  • Submit their expression of interest to Australian state or territory prior to visa application.
  • Be nominated by Australian state or territory to apply.
  • Conduct legal business or investment activities only in Australia.
  • Not having history of any illegal business and investment activity in any country.
